The Faculty of Bioengineering and Technology (FBKT) was officially approved by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) on 2nd September 2016. Its establishment aligns with the aspirations outlined in the UMK Directions and Strategic Plan 2010–2020. FBKT’s foundation also supports the goals of the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2015–2025 (Higher Education), which emphasizes the delivery of 21st-century academic programs that balance ethics, knowledge, and entrepreneurial attributes. This mission further upholds the National Higher Education Strategic Plan (PSPTN) and the 10th Malaysia Plan, focusing on producing high-quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates who are competitive in both the Malaysian and ASEAN markets.
FBKT currently offers five undergraduate programmes:
- Bachelor of Applied Science (Bioindustrial Technology) with Honours, introduced in the 2008/2009 academic session
- Bachelor of Applied Science (Material Technology) with Honours, offered since 2013/2014
- Bachelor of Applied Science (Forest Resources Technology) with Honours, launched in the 2014/2015 session
- Bachelor of Minerals Technology with Honours, and
- Bachelor of Energy Technology with Honours.
The curriculum is strategically designed to emphasize both technical and scientific training, supported by a strong foundation in basic science. Elective courses complement the specialization tracks, ensuring a well-rounded academic experience. Additionally, students are exposed to entrepreneurship-focused elective modules aimed at equipping graduates with the skills to translate their knowledge into economic value—particularly within the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector.
